The Role of the Police

According to Inyama, despite the physical and mental abuse she endured, she lacked the strength to leave the marriage. She stated, “I didn’t leave; I was removed by the police. That’s the truth. I wouldn’t have left otherwise.” This candid admission highlights the crucial role law enforcement played in her escape from a dangerous situation.

Normalization of Domestic Violence

Inyama has been a vocal advocate against domestic violence for years, and in the interview, she reiterated her belief that it is often normalized in Nigerian society. She mentioned that people often excuse the behavior of influential or wealthy abusers and that those who speak out are frequently attacked online. She believes this mindset needs to change for victims to feel safe and for society to take the issue seriously.

Her Journey to Healing

The actress, who is now a mental health advocate, explained that her personal experiences with abuse fueled her passion for psychology and wellness. She credits her understanding of social psychology and her spirituality with helping her to heal and move forward. Her current focus is on supporting others on their journey to well-being.
