Former Ogun State Governor, Gbenga Daniel, and a host of other dignitaries have arrived at the venue of the coronation of Oba Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, amid a massive security presence.1 The historic event, taking place at the iconic Mapo Hall in Ibadan, has brought together a wide array of political leaders, traditional rulers, and prominent figures from across the country.2
The coronation ceremony, which also includes the official presentation of the staff of office to the new monarch, is a culmination of a week-long series of events.3 Security personnel, including members of the Nigerian Army, State Security Service (SSS), Nigeria Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and Operation Amotekun, were deployed as early as 7:30 a.m. to ensure a peaceful and orderly event.4 Major entry points to the venue have been barricaded, with security operatives carefully screening attendees.
The Oyo State Police Command had earlier issued a public warning against any form of public disorder or unauthorized processions, while a travel advisory was released to guide motorists and residents on alternative routes around the venue.5
The coronation of Oba Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State, has been highly anticipated and is seen as a significant cultural and historical milestone for the city of Ibadan.6 Dignitaries expected to grace the event include President Bola Tinubu, other governors, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and a host of other prominent personalities.7
