The Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, has attributed the growing number of politicians and citizens defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the positive impact and perceived success of President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms.1
Governor Otu made the statement to journalists on the sidelines of a quarterly meeting of the APC Governors’ Forum in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State.2
Key Points of Governor Otu’s Position:
- Reason for Attraction: Otu stated the attraction to the APC is “simple: The economy is growing, and it’s very clear that His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu, is doing the right things.” He described the momentum as a “steady and deliberate revival of Nigeria’s economy.”3
- Clear Path to Recovery: He asserted that people are gravitating towards the APC because they “can now see a clear path of economic recovery and stability” under the Renewed Hope Agenda.4
- Evidence of Diversification: He cited progress in key sectors, pointing out that agriculture has contributed even more than oil, which he called a “testament to true diversification.”5
- Internal Party Unity: Governor Otu dismissed claims of internal tension between founding members and new joiners, assuring that once a person joins the APC, they have “equal rights.”6
- Party Focus: The Governor maintained that the APC’s main agenda is not internal politics but “delivering to Nigerians the dividends of good governance,” including the transformation of the national economy and deepening democratic governance.7
- 2027 Optimism: He expressed confidence that the administration’s performance and policy trajectory provide strong grounds for optimism regarding the 2027 elections.8
