The statement originates from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a political party in Nigeria, outlining its core commitment to fundamental reforms in the country’s governance structure ahead of future elections (2027).

The party’s resolve to redesign governance is anchored on eliminating the following corrupt practices:

Key Pledges by the ADC Leadership

  • No Godfathers (Anti-Imposition): The ADC, currently led by its Interim National Chairman, former Senate President Senator David Mark, has vowed to eliminate the influence of “godfathers” and the imposition of candidates. Senator Mark has repeatedly stressed that the party will be a rules-based institution guided by its constitution and collective leadership, not by the whims of powerful individuals.
  • End to Budget Padding (Fiscal Transparency): The party pledged to defend the separation of powers, strengthen oversight, and enforce transparent budgeting processes. The goal is to ensure that budgets genuinely reflect the public good and not private interests, with a commitment to end “parallel budgets” and enforce strict, transparent planning and auditing.
  • Redesigning Governance (Policy-Driven): The ADC is focused on building a party defined by a unified, unblemished ideology and progressive policies, rather than individual personalities. The party has established a 50-member Policy Committee to articulate its vision on key national priorities (like the economy, security, and power supply).
  • Inclusivity: The party has also committed to substantial inclusion, reserving a high percentage of leadership roles (up to 50%) for women and youths (under 40).
