The people of Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State have unanimously endorsed the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, for his second term bid ahead of the November 8, 2025, governorship election in the state.
Thousands of residents of the community who thronged the LGA headquarters in Ukpo to receive Soludo and his wife, Dr Nonye Soludo, as well as the Deputy Governor, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, during the endorsement rally on Friday, also donated an undisclosed amount for the governor’s campaign.
The event was held alongside the community’s New Yam Festival, called “Iweife-Ubi”, with various traditional rulers, the Chairman of Dunukofia LGA, Clement Ozumba, and other stakeholders, APGA faithful, various support groups, and traditional title holders, among others, in attendance.
Speaking at the rally, Soludo emphasised the importance of local support, while appreciating the strong backing he received in the community during his election campaign in 2021.
Reflecting on past successes, the governor said, “I appreciate the people of Dunukofia for the strong backing I received during my campaign. We won resoundingly in Dunukofia in 2021.
“I have been told we will win all the wards and polling units again, and we are confident of our electoral victory. My administration has been making substantial progress. In the last three and a half years, we have been building the foundation.”
“There are massive improvements in the education sector. The public schools were in a deplorable state when we came. Today, it is no longer the case.”
The event also afforded the community the opportunity for the inauguration of the Dunukofia legislative building, where the governor addressed local governance.
“The local government system is working in Anambra State; it is the effectiveness of initiatives implemented under my leadership. I appreciate the people of Dunukofia for the legislative building.
“We will continue to work with the community as usual in the next four years of our administration. What we have achieved within this first tenure is greater than what our predecessors achieved in eight years,” he added.
He, however, enumerated some of his achievements, including the upgrading of public schools, building of hospitals and improved standards of education in Anambra State, which he attributed to the awards Anambra public schools are presently winning.
Soludo further added that he has employed 8,115 teachers and restored adequate security in the state, assuring them that he would attract more development in his second term.
At the event, residents also had the opportunity to express their thoughts and appreciation. In his opening remarks, the President-General of Ukpo, Cyril Ezewulu, disclosed that Dunukofia LGA is for Soludo, insisting that his coming back for the second tenure is sacrosanct.
Ezewulu assured the governor that Dunukofia LGA is solidly behind him, adding that nobody in Dunukofia would vote for any other political party except the All Progressives Grand Alliance in the upcoming November 8 governorship election.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Dunukofia LGA, Clement Ozumba, said Soludo has done well for Dunukofia and Anambra State in general, recounting 10.2 and 3.1 kilometres of roads which he said Soludo constructed for them.
Ozumba also reminded the Community that Soludo has equally built a lot of smart schools in Dunukofia, citing the community primary school, Umunachi.
Others who made their remarks during the endorsement rally were the Commissioner of Lands, Prof. Offornze Amaucheazi(SAN), Mrs Chinyere Obidi representing the Market Women of Dunukofia, Mr Joseph Okafor, who spoke on behalf of the One-Youth-Two-skills graduates, among others.
Other highlights at the event were the conferment of the Dunukofia chieftaincy title of “Agubuzo Na Dunukofia” on Chief Jim Nwabueze and the presentation of prize gifts for farmers in the competition for the categories of largest cassava farm, largest yam farm, biggest tuber, largest vegetable farm, and largest poultry.
Recipients of the farm-to-table movement competitions went home with varying prize money, such as N500,000 for the winner, N300,000 for the second place and N200,000 for the third place.
Other support groups made cash and cheque presentations for Soludo’s re-election campaign.
All speakers praised Soludo for his achievements within his short stay in office, highlighting his commitment to development and the welfare of the people. They emphasised his leadership qualities and acknowledged his dedication to improving the community’s well-being.
