The Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, marked his 51st birthday (October 17) with deep reflection and prayers dedicated to the peace, unity, and prosperity of Nigeria and the African race.
The Ooni’s Message and Celebration
The monarch’s message, issued from the Ile Oodua Palace in Ile-Ife, centered on unity, cultural values, and the collective responsibility of citizens and leaders:
- Plea for National Unity: Ooni Ogunwusi, who is the spiritual head of the Oduduwa race, specifically prayed for peace in the nation and wisdom for its leaders. He urged traditional rulers and subjects across the Oduduwa lineage to “shun divisions and work together” to overcome challenges.
- Cultural Renaissance: He reiterated his belief that “Our diversity is our strength” and emphasized that African traditions and identity must be leveraged as “vital instruments for social cohesion and national rebirth.”
- Commitment to Service: The Ooni described his life and nearly a decade on the throne as a journey of divine purpose and service, reaffirming his commitment to using the traditional platform to promote unity, youth empowerment, and women’s inclusion.
- Gratitude: He expressed deep gratitude to Olodumare (God Almighty) for the gift of life and the strength to continue serving humanity through the throne of Oduduwa.
The celebration of his 51st birthday comes as the monarch also prepares to mark his 10th coronation anniversary later in the year, which is themed “Ten Years of Aṣé: A Reign of Peace, Culture and Unity.”
