Following a newly announced Gaza ceasefire and hostage deal, Israeli President Isaac Herzog has stated that U.S. President Donald Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize.1 In a social media post, Herzog praised Trump’s “incredible leadership” in the negotiations, saying it left “no doubt that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize.”2
Herzog is not the only Israeli leader to voice this opinion. Opposition leader Yair Lapid also congratulated Trump on the deal and said, “there is no person who deserves the Nobel Peace Prize more.”3
The announcement of the Israel-Hamas deal comes just a day before the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize is set to be announced.4 However, the Norwegian Nobel Committee, which makes the final selection, met and made its decision on Monday, before the deal was publicly announced.5 According to a historian specializing in the prize, this means the agreement will have “absolutely no impact” on the choice of the 2025 laureate, and he is “100 percent certain” Trump will not win this year.6
Trump has made no secret of his desire for the award, having repeatedly asserted that he deserves it for his efforts to resolve multiple conflicts, including the Abraham Accords during his first term.7 He has also previously claimed to have ended “seven wars.”8 His push for the Nobel has intensified in recent days, with aides privately lobbying for recognition.9
