The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) by four days. The extension, which took effect from a previous deadline, will now end on Wednesday, December 10, 2025.

The decision to extend the exercise was reportedly made to accommodate the significant number of eligible citizens who were yet to register. According to official INEC announcements, the continuous voter registration exercise for new voters and those seeking to update or transfer their records began on August 18, 2025, with an online pre-registration, followed by physical registration on August 25, 2025.

The extension is part of INEC’s efforts to ensure that all eligible voters have the opportunity to participate in the FCT Area Council elections scheduled for February 21, 2026. The Commission also announced the devolution of the registration process to the ward level and the suspension of the online pre-registration platform in the FCT to increase accessibility for citizens.
