While it’s a common phrase in Nigerian politics, there doesn’t appear to be a recent statement from Orji Uzor Kalu where he “vows” the All Progressives Congress (APC) will take over Abia in 2027.
Instead, recent reports indicate that the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has made that exact declaration. Benjamin Kalu stated that the APC is “gathering momentum” to take control of Abia from the current Labour Party administration in the 2027 general elections.1 He emphasized that the takeover would not be by “federal might” but through the votes of the masses.2 He also urged party members to obtain their voters’ cards.
It is worth noting that while Orji Uzor Kalu is a prominent APC figure in Abia State and a former governor, he is currently serving as a senator for the Abia North Senatorial District.3 He has a long political history in the state, having served as a two-term governor from 1999 to 2007, under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and later the Progressive People’s Alliance (PPA), before joining the APC.4
