An ADC chieftain, Hon. Chille Igbawua, the Secretary of the ADC Coalition, has stated that the “Obidient” movement will be a major force in shaping the 2027 general elections.
Speaking in a recent interview, Igbawua confirmed that Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate for the Labour Party and the figurehead of the “Obidient” movement, is an active part of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.1 He said that Obi has been a part of the leadership from the beginning and attends the coalition’s meetings.2
The Power of the Obidient Movement
The “Obidient” movement, which is largely made up of young people, is considered a significant force in Nigerian politics.3 Analysts say its power comes from its strong grassroots organization and its effective use of social media to get its message out.4 The movement played a key role in the 2023 elections and is seen as a major factor in the political landscape.
According to ADC leaders, the coalition was formed to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and provide a united opposition front in the 2027 elections.5 The inclusion of Peter Obi and other prominent figures like Atiku Abubakar is seen as a strategic move to combine their followership and create a powerful political platform.6
